VABI’s Bloom Team, a dedicated group of volunteers, is led by the dedicated and inspiring Bob Vedder.
His hardworking team plants and tends over 70 flower fountains and containers, 91 hanging baskets, and 57 specialized gardens throughout Downtown Venice.
Easily recognizable in their signature bright green shirts, they can be seen daily at the city’s entrances and downtown, planting, watering, weeding, pruning, mulching, and engaging with locals and visitors who pause to admire Venice’s vibrant flowers
Nominations to America in Bloom are submitted each year by VABI’s Venice in Bloom Team. In 2020, Venice received awards of community vitality, floral displays, landscaped areas, urban forestry, environmental efforts, celebration of heritage, and overalls.
Venice was the winner of the Coolest Downtown Award and the Outstanding Achievement Award for Landscape Areas.
2021 Awards: Venice was the winner of the Eye-Popping Pots – Best Use of Containers in the Landscape (Sponsored by Crescent Garden).
This award looks for dramatic plant combinations using color, texture, and growth habit effectively. Numbers of planters and containers and uniformity of growth were considered. This award also looks for good choice of plants as well as overall dramatic effect with bold foliage and color.
